Scoffers among us who are "willingly ignorant" Of what the love and grace of God can bring.

The
psalmist David pondered a magnificent sky,
As he prayed and mused by a campfire.
"The heavens", he wrote, "are an incredible wonder", But to God... "what is Man?" - something higher!

Chasing riches and filthy lucre to trade;
Deceived by the Devil - all sinners; But "fearfully and wonderfully made".

wise, as we live and seek knowledge,
We will learn that we are really not lost,
For God in heaven so loves us, That He sent his son Jesus to die on the cross.

On the hill of Golgotha called Calvary,
A love letter was written in blood; His cry, "Eli, Eli, la'ma sa-bach-tha-ni?" Paid the ransom price to set us free. |

Yes, the
Devil has put us in prison,
And for now, we endure barbed wire and bars;
But the real prison is for the son of perdition, And our destiny is among the stars! 1 Thessalonians 4:17; Psalms 23:6
And don't think your sins are so terrible; So unique and so heinous that God
won't forgive,
For even the prophets and apostles were sinners, But in our Lord Jesus Christ we all live.

So when you despair of your troubles, And stand hurt and broken-hearted on the gate, *

To get the full impact of this, you should read it again, along with the scripture references as you come to them.
* In the last quatrain, second line, the phrase "on the gate" is prison slang for standing at the bars of a prison cell, usually speaking or yelling. If you are "on the gate", you are usually in conversation or in some form of communication that can be overheard by everyone. If you are being argumentative, loud, obnoxious, or offensive to the others in the cellblock, you are told to "get off the gate".
