Increase BROADBAND SPEED

System Tweak

This tweak is for broadband connections, but it might also work for dial up.
You can do this while you are displaying this page.

  • Make sure your logged on as "Administrator".

  • Start->Run->type gpedit.msc

  • Expand the "Local Computer Policy" branch.

  • Expand the "Administrative Templates" branch.

  • Expand the "Network Branch".

  • Highlight the "QoS Packet Scheduler" in left window.

  • In right window double-click the "Limit Reservable Bandwidth" setting.

  • On setting tab check the "Enabled" item.

  • Where it says "Bandwidth limit %" change it to read 0.

    The effect is immediate on some systems, others need to be re-booted. This is more of a "counter what XP does" thing.  In other words, programs can request up to 20% of the bandwidth be reserved for them, even with QoS is disabled.

 

Google Broadband Accelerator


    Google has a FREE Broadband Accelerator that compresses certain pages, and caches others. The tool is FREE of charge or cost, and the installation takes a few seconds. If you are NOT using Firefox or IE,  you'll need to manually configure your proxy settings to 127.0.0.1:9100 for HTTP connections.
